Oriental Insurance Company plans to invest around ₹500 crore over the next three years to strengthen its digital capabilities and improve customer service. The public sector general insurer will focus on data security, digital products and technology-led claims processing as it expands its online services.
Oriental Insurance Chairman and Managing Director Sanjay Joshi told PTI that the company has already floated some requests for proposals for its technology projects. It will take up the remaining projects over the next two years.
Oriental Insurance Builds Digital Infrastructure
The insurer plans to develop a data lake that can centralise large volumes of structured and unstructured information. Oriental Insurance also plans to strengthen its data security infrastructure as it expands its digital operations.
The company wants to introduce more digital insurance products to make its services easier to access. It has already launched Oriental DigiBiz, a dedicated digital office that allows customers to purchase insurance directly through its online portal without intermediary intervention. Eligible customers can also receive discounts through the platform.
The move comes as insurers across India continue to expand digital distribution and online customer services. In May, the Department of Financial Services also asked public sector insurers to strengthen their technology capabilities, expand online services and improve customer grievance resolution.
Digital Claims Form Key Part of Strategy
Oriental Insurance has also started an end-to-end digital process for Motor Own Damage claims. The system aims to make insurance claims faster and more transparent for customers.
Joshi said the company wants to extend the digital claims journey to other insurance segments. This could reduce paperwork and simplify the claims experience for policyholders.
The insurer has also introduced and enhanced several products, including Oriental Gramin Health, Oriental PA Parivar Suraksha, Roadside Assistance and Return to Invoice add-ons.
Oriental Insurance crossed ₹20,000 crore in gross premium during FY2025-26. The Ministry of Finance said health, fire, motor and group personal accident insurance contributed strongly to the company’s growth. The motor segment remained its largest contributor, with commercial vehicle insurance accounting for a significant share of motor premium.
The ₹500-crore technology programme will therefore cover several areas of Oriental Insurance’s operations, from data management and cybersecurity to digital sales and insurance claims. As the insurer increases its technology investment, its focus will remain on improving digital access while expanding its product portfolio and customer services.
