How We Earn — Every Revenue Source Explained

If a platform claims to offer free advice, you should ask how they make money. Here is our answer to every revenue source, with complete transparency and clear disclosures.

Most financial platforms in India earn when you buy a product through them. That creates a quiet but real conflict of interest. The advice you receive gets shaped, even if unintentionally, by what earns the platform money.

Exclusion Mandates

We tell you exactly how we make money. Every rupee.

At MyRupia, we do not operate that way. Our revenue is not tied to what policy you choose or which insurer you go with. It never will be.

Our Revenue Sources

MyRupia earns through fees for advisory services and educational content. No commissions, no referral fees, no insurer arrangements.

1. Expert consultation fees

When you book a paid consultation with an independent insurance advisor through MyRupia, you pay a consultation fee for that interaction. A portion of this fee is MyRupia’s platform margin; the rest goes directly to the advisor.

This is our primary source of revenue. No insurer is involved at any stage, and your policy choice has no bearing on what we earn.

2. Paid policy review services

If you need a detailed written review of an existing policy, that service carries a flat fee. An independent expert examines your policy document and provides a structured breakdown of what is covered, what is excluded, and what you need to watch out for. There are no referral earnings involved. We earn from the service itself, nothing else.

3. Future: premium advisory subscriptions (planned)

A subscription model for ongoing personalised guidance and annual policy audits is currently under evaluation. It has not launched yet. When it does, we will maintain our independence disclosure policy, and this page will be updated with full details, such as pricing, scope, and how advisor compensation works within it.

What We Do NOT Do

This section is just as important as the one above. Knowing what we have chosen to exclude from our service will tell you a great deal more about how we work.

No Insurer Commissions

MyRupia does not receive commissions, referral fees, or any form of payment from insurance companies when a user purchases or renews a policy through any recommendation on our platform. This is a common norm in the Indian insurance advisory space. Most platforms earn this way. We do not.

No Advertising from Insurers

No insurer or financial product company pays MyRupia for content placement, increased visibility, or mentions in our articles and comparisons. If a plan appears in our content, it is there because it is relevant to the topic, and not because someone paid for it to appear.

No Data Selling

Your personal information, policy details, and financial data remain private. MyRupia does not sell, share, or monetise user data in any form. We do not pass your contact details to insurers, agents, or third-party brokers. There is no lead generation happening in the background.

No Product Promotion for Money

We do not accept payment to recommend, feature, or highlight any financial product. This includes:

  • No brand partnerships
  • No sponsored expert opinions
  • No paid editorial placement

When we assess a product, the assessment is based entirely on its merit.

Why This Matters for You

Think about it this way. When you walk into a showroom and ask a car salesperson whether you should buy a car, the answer is almost always yes. Not because they are dishonest, but because their income depends on the sale. Most insurance guidance in India is built on a similar model.

Here is what that typically looks like in practice:

  • Commission-driven platforms earn a percentage of your premium every time you buy or renew a policy through them, creating a quiet incentive to recommend higher-premium products.
  • Aggregator websites often rank insurers based on who pays more for visibility, not on which plan suits you best.
  • “Free” advisors may receive backend referral fees from insurers that are never disclosed upfront.

How MyRupia Stands Out

MyRupia is designed to sit outside that system entirely. We earn from your time with us, not from what you decide to buy. That single structural difference is what makes independent advice possible. Not as a promise, but as a built-in feature of how we operate.

When the advice you receive has no financial stake in your decision, you can evaluate it on its own merit. That is what we want for every person who comes to this platform.

Accountability: Is This Model Perfect?

No model is without its limitations, and we want to be straightforward about ours. Paid consultations mean that some users might not be able to afford the fees for personalised guidance. We take this seriously.

To address this, MyRupia maintains a free content library that covers the most common insurance questions in detail. Most users can find useful, reliable answers at no cost. The paid consultation tier exists for those who need specific, expert-led guidance tailored to their situation.

We also understand that transparency only holds value if it is consistent over time. If you notice anything on MyRupia that appears inconsistent with what we have stated here (any content, recommendation, or partnership that seems at odds with our stated independence), then please write to us at hello@myrupia.in.

We would rather be questioned than quietly trusted without reason. Our credibility rests entirely on this kind of accountability.
