How We Work — Your Journey From Confusion to Clarity
Most people interact with their insurance exactly twice: when they buy it, and when they try to claim. What happens in between is often a gap no one fills. There are no alerts when a policy lapses, no help decoding fine print, and no one to call when a claim gets stuck.
MyRupia is designed to be useful at every point between those two moments. We are here to give you the information and access you need to deal with insurance on your own terms.
Simple, honest guidance at every stage of your insurance journey!

Step 1
Understand Insurance on Your Own Terms
Most policyholders don’t know what they’ve bought until they need it. The Learn section is a free, comprehensive library of insurance education written in plain language. It covers the foundational concepts:
- How your premiums are calculated
- Why the cheapest policy isn’t always the right one.
It also covers the exclusions, waiting periods, sub-limits, and the fine print that agents don’t highlight. You’ll understand the different policy types available in India, how the claims process works end-to-end, and what your rights are as a policyholder under the Indian law and IRDAI regulations. You will not need to login for any information.
Step 2
Review what you already own
Buying a policy and understanding a policy are two different things. The Know Your Policy section is built for this. If you already hold insurance policies, you can use the AI-powered policy scanner to audit them. It checks for common errors, duplicate coverage, standard exclusions, and areas where your coverage may fall short relative to your actual exposure.
The scanner doesn’t tell you what to buy. Instead, it tells you what you have and where the gaps are. If you want a more detailed review, you can book a one-on-one session with an independent expert who has no product to sell and no commission to earn.
Step 3
Get help with claims
A policy is only as useful as its claims process. In practise, this process can involve missing documents, delayed responses, partial settlements, and outright rejections. Sometimes your claim may get rejected for reasons that don’t hold up under scrutiny.
The Claims section is designed for policyholders who are already in the middle of a claim, and not just those preparing for one. Our step-by-step guides cover IRDAI-mandated timelines, the documents insurers ask for, and the formal escalation process if your insurance company is unresponsive.
If your claim has been rejected or settled for less than you expected, there are specific guides for those situations as well. The goal is to make sure you understand every option available to you before you accept a decision you don’t have to accept.
Step 4
Resolve grievances and mis-selling
Mis-selling is a documented problem in the Indian insurance market. It is not rare to see policies getting sold as investment products or coverage misrepresented at the time of sale. Sometimes, premiums are collected for riders that the buyer didn’t even know they were purchasing. When this happens, most policyholders may not know they have recourse.
The Grievance section explains exactly what that recourse looks like. It helps you understand how to approach your insurer formally and file a complaint with IRDAI’s Bima Bharosa portal. You’ll also get insights into the Insurance Ombudsman process, and when the consumer court becomes a realistic option. Your rights as a policyholder are specific and enforceable. This section is designed to help you use them.
Step 5
Speak to an expert
Some insurance situations are genuinely complex. For such situations, a general guide isn’t enough. Through MyRupia, you can book a paid consultation with a vetted independent insurance advisor. These advisors have no insurer affiliation and earn no commission on product sales. Their job is to give you specific, honest guidance on your specific situation. MyRupia earns a platform fee from these consultations. This is explained in full on the How We Earn page.
What we are not
MyRupia is not a comparison portal. We do not rank products by commission. We are not a broker. We don’t hold a distribution licence and don’t sell any policies. We are not an insurer.
We are an independent guidance platform, and that description carries a specific meaning. The information here serves your interests, not a distributor’s targets or an insurer’s renewal rate. Every section of this platform follows from that distinction. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place!
