Swiss Re, Bajaj General Join Hands on Commercial Insurance

The exclusive partnership will target complex commercial risks in high-tech and manufacturing while supporting Indian companies with international insurance programmes.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions has established an exclusive partnership with Bajaj General Insurance to expand commercial insurance solutions for Indian businesses. The arrangement will focus on complex risks across high-tech, manufacturing and other sectors that support India’s economic growth.

The partnership will also support Indian companies expanding overseas and multinational businesses with operations in India. Swiss Re will bring its global underwriting expertise, capital strength and international insurance capabilities, while Bajaj General will provide local market knowledge and distribution reach.

Focus on high-growth commercial risks

The collaboration will cover treaty business and aims to strengthen insurance solutions for businesses facing increasingly complex domestic and international risks. The partners plan to use Swiss Re Corporate Solutions’ international programmes capabilities to help Indian companies manage insurance requirements across multiple markets.

The focus on high-tech and manufacturing reflects the growing need for specialised commercial insurance coverage as companies expand operations, invest in technology and participate in global supply chains.

Ivan Gonzalez, CEO of Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, said multinational companies increasingly expect insurers to combine local expertise with global capabilities and coordinated international execution. He said the partnership can help both companies serve corporate clients while creating a platform for long-term growth.

Bajaj General Insurance had announced the commercial partnership with Swiss Re in August through a memorandum of understanding. The initial arrangement remained subject to definitive agreements and applicable regulatory requirements.

India gains focus from global insurers

India has become an important market for global insurance and reinsurance companies as domestic businesses expand internationally and multinational firms increase their presence in the country.

The Swiss Re-Bajaj General arrangement adds to a broader trend of global insurers working with Indian partners to address corporate risks. Swiss Re said the partnership with Bajaj General represents its exclusive arrangement of this type in India.

Bajaj General’s commercial portfolio already includes areas such as fire, marine, engineering, liability and surety insurance. The partnership could add further specialised risk-management capabilities to this portfolio.

For Indian businesses, the arrangement could provide access to more coordinated insurance programmes as they expand across borders. For insurers, it highlights the growing demand for specialised underwriting as India’s commercial economy becomes more globally connected.
